Receiving a toll notice

Toll notices include the cost of your unpaid trip, and a $10.00 administration fee for each toll road travelled.

Using a toll notice to pay for your travel is more expensive.

Example trip cost
Parramatta to Sydney CBD
$22.02

Avoid paying more with a Linkt account, Sydney Pass, or by searching and paying for your toll trip within 24 hours to 10 days of travelling.

Don’t pay more than you have to for tolls

Every toll notice includes the cost of your unpaid trip, and a $10.00 administration fee for each toll road travelled.

Travelling with an active Linkt account or Sydney Pass means you won’t pay additional administration fees.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I just pay for a single toll trip?

Yes, but only for certain trips taken 24 hours to 10 days ago. Using your licence plate number and state of registration, you can search and pay for a recent trip on the following toll roads:

    • Cross City Tunnel
    • Eastern Distributor
    • Hills M2
    • Lane Cove Tunnel
    • M5 South-West Motorway
    • NorthConnex
    • WestConnex
    • Westlink M7.
  • What happens if I don’t pay within 10 days of travel?

If you don't pay for your toll trip within 10 days of travelling, you'll be sent a toll notice in the mail. Every toll notice includes the cost of your unpaid trip, and a $10.00 administration fee for each toll road travelled.

  • What are vehicle classes?

In NSW, your vehicle's class depends on its size. The class of your vehicle, as well as where and how far you travel, determines how much you pay for tolls. Vehicles are typically classed as A (cars and motorcycles) or B (trucks and heavy vehicles). Classes may vary across toll roads and interstate. Check for specific class details.

  • What if I have difficulty paying right now?

If you’re finding it difficult to pay for your tolls because of financial or social challenges, the Linkt Assist team may be able to help. Get in touch as soon as you can to access confidential support which is tailored to your needs.

  • How do I calculate travel costs?

You can calculate the cost of your Sydney toll road travel by using our Sydney toll calculator.

  • What are video matching fees?

Video matching fees are charged for matching your licence plate number to your toll trip if you don’t have a working tag in your vehicle. When you travel on a toll road, a photograph of your licence plate number is taken and then checked against our records.

  • How do I pay if travelling in a rental vehicle?

If your rental vehicle is linked to a toll account, any travel should be automatically set up for you. If your rental agency doesn’t have an existing tolling arrangement, you may be able to use your personal Linkt account or pass to cover toll road travel in your rental vehicle. We recommend you check with your rental agency first about how to pay for planned or unplanned toll road travel.

*Except for the Harbour Bridge or Harbour Tunnel. If you travelled on those toll roads, you can purchase a Sydney Pass within 3 days of travel to cover your trip. If you don't pay within 3 days, you'll likely receive a toll notice from Transport for NSW for payment.
