More drivers are spending less time on the road and enjoying smoother trips during a dynamic speed limit trial underway on CityLink.
In March, the six-month trial started on the CityLink/Tullamarine corridor between Bulla Road and the Bolte Bridge. The trial sees speeds increase from 80 km/h to 100 km/h during off-peak periods when it’s safe to do so.
Transurban General Manager Operations, Victoria, Phil Naulls said is the trial was a win for drivers, who are now enjoying quicker trips for longer.
“We’re using technology to continuously monitor the road and set speeds on CityLink that reflect the live traffic environment for the trial,” Mr Naulls said.
“With the benefit of new lanes and speeds increasing to 100km/h as early as 8pm on Saturdays and 9pm on weekdays, motorists are saving up to two minutes on their journey, in addition to the travel time savings since new lanes opened.”
“We’ll continue to monitor the trial and dynamically increase speeds when the conditions are right so people can get to where they need to be as safely and efficiently as possible.”
