Sensors monitor the levels of carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter within our tunnels. These readings are sent to our control centres who then manage the ventilation system to ensure optimal air quality and visibility are maintained.
We monitor and report on the emission levels from our air stacks according to Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) specifications. Our emission rates consistently fall well below EPA limits and the frequency of our air quality reporting exceeds requirements.
The air quality interactive table with monthly data is published quarterly, for both the Burnley Tunnel and Domain Tunnel.
The following graphs show the monthly average level of emissions from the Domain Tunnel ventilation stack. The Domain Tunnel ventilation stack is located in Grant Street, South Melbourne.
The red horizontal line at the top of each chart indicates the EPA Licence Limit. The monthly average emission levels of Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) and air-born particulates are shown as a percentage of that limit.
