Strengthening works have commenced on the Bolte Bridge and West Gate Freeway connection

Motorists will see strengthening works underway on the West Gate Freeway overpass that connects to the Bolte Bridge.

These works will help ensure this vital road connection continues to keep Melbourne moving for years to come. These works will take around six months to complete.

We’ll do our best to keep traffic flowing while the works are carried out but motorists should be aware there will be times when lane and ramp closures, local detours and speed reductions are required.

Keep up to date with the latest traffic alerts by switching on road alerts in the Linkt app or by visiting the Linkt website.

Vehicles over 44 tonne

Heavy vehicles users are reminded that the temporary 44 tonne weight limit will remain in place while the strengthening works are carried out.

See detour maps below.

We understand this will impact the freight industry as they go about their travels. We’re working closely with industry, the Department of Transport and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to help inform freight about the changes and ensure heavy vehicle detours are well communicated so drivers can plan ahead to minimise disruptions to their operations.

To stay up to date with the latest changes to load limits as they happen see the heavy vehicle maps at VicRoads
