Heading off for some summer adventures? Plan ahead and allow more time during roadworks. With the West Gate Tunnel now open, you have more travel choices.
West Gate Bridge works – 26 December to 4 January
Transport Victoria will be carrying out its annual maintenance works on the West Gate Bridge.
Three lanes will be closed—initially in both directions:
- Citybound: 9pm Friday 26 December 2025 to 6am Sunday 4 January 2026
- Outbound: 9pm Friday 26 December to 6pm Monday 29 December 2025.
Major delays of up to 60 minutes are expected with only two lanes open in both directions.
Remember to plan ahead, know your detours, and allow extra travel time.
The West Gate Tunnel toll road is available as an alternate route during this time.
CityLink resurfacing works – starting 5 January
Lanes will also be closed overnight for works on CityLink outbound between Burnley Tunnel exit and Toorak Road, from Monday 5 January, as we begin a preventative road resurfacing program.
These works will help maintain smooth travel by reducing pavement cracking, preventing water damage and avoiding future potholes
When we are working
The works will be delivered in stages and carried out overnight between 8:00pm and 5:00am. No works will occur on Friday nights, Saturday nights, or public holidays.
- In January, we'll work on the outbound carriageway, moving progressively along sections of CityLink between Burnley Tunnel and Toorak Rd
- In February, we'll work on the inbound section between Toorak Rd and Gibdon Street
- In March and early April, we'll work on the inbound section between Gibdon Street and Domain Tunnel
In the area we’re working in each night, traffic will be reduced to one lane during the shift for about 1-2kms.
Expect short delays these sections of CityLink at night in the coming months.
