In an exciting step for the West Gate Tunnel Project, a new toll-free city bypass via Wurundjeri Way will open on 27 October.
The new bypass connects Dynon Road in West Melbourne with Wurundjeri Way in Docklands, offering more choices for drivers travelling between Melbourne’s west and south-east suburbs.
It will also help reduce the number of cars that rely on Spencer and King Streets in the CBD.
Once it opens, you can check out the new bypass and get your first taste of the new West Gate Tunnel Project.
If you are travelling from the west to the south, here's how you can use the new bypass:
- Take Dynon Road towards the city and veer left into Wurundjeri Way to access the city bypass.
- At the Wurundjeri Way/Flinders Street intersection, turn right to continue along Wurundjeri Way and towards South Melbourne.
- Stay in the left lanes and follow on-road signs for Montague Street to travel onto the south-east and bayside suburbs.
The bypass will also link to the West Gate Tunnel, which is scheduled to open later this year. You can take a virtual drive now before it opens.
