AM peak toll

If you’re heading to the city via the West Gate Tunnel, you’ll notice that the City West exits of Footscray Road, Wurundjeri Way and Dynon Road will be tolled on weekdays (excluding Victorian public holidays) between 7am-9am.

This toll only applies for motorcycles, cars and light commercial vehicles, and it is additional to the West Gate Tunnel toll.

If you use these exits during this weekday peak, you’ll notice an extra toll charge on your trip history.

If you travel on these exits outside of 7am-9am, your tag will not beep and there’s no charge.

The AM peak toll will help improve traffic flow and congestion during peak times.

Choose your lane early

When travelling on the West Gate Tunnel, it’s important to choose your lane early.

Plan your journey by:

Common journeys

  • Heading towards the city

Take the left lanes for West Gate Tunnel and freeway exits. Keep right for express lanes to the West Gate Bridge.

    • If you’re travelling on either the M80 or Princes Freeway toward the city, you’ll need to decide early if you want to take the bridge or the tunnel, and get into the correct lanes just before the M80 interchange.
    • If you get on the freeway at Grieve Parade or Millers Road, you’ll make a choice just after passing Millers Road.
  • Heading away from the city
    • If you’re travelling south on CityLink towards the West Gate Tunnel, you’ll need to decide early and get into the two left lanes when you see the signs for ‘M4 West Gate Tunnel / Avalon Airport’.
    • After exiting the tunnel onto the West Gate Freeway:
      • Use the right lane and follow the signs for ‘M80 Ring Road’ to continue to the M80 interchange.
      • Use the left lanes and follow the signs for ‘M1 Geelong’ to get to the Princes Freeway.

If you’re travelling away from the city on the West Gate Freeway from the bridge, you’ll need to decide early if you’re heading to the Princes Freeway or M80 Ring Road, or exiting at Millers Road or Grieve Parade, and get into the correct lanes on the West Gate Bridge.
